Same sex marriage is the marriage among two individuals belonging to the same sex, i.e. male with male or female with female and this kind of marriage is also known as homosexual marriage, gay marriage, lesbian marriage, gender-neutral marriage, single- sex marriage etc.

Same Sex Marriage: How far Is It Prevalent In The Society?

Marriage between members of the opposite sexes or heterosexual marriage is mostly prevalent worldwide but in contrast same sex marriage is legalized in only, a few countries. Some of the countries where same sex marriage is officially permitted are South Africa , Spain , Canada , the Netherlands , Belgium and the US state of Massachusetts . Same sex marriage was approved in the Netherlands in 2001 and furthermore, with regard to same sex mariage, the high court of Israel has granted a verdict that same sex marriages perfomed in other countries would be accepted in Isarel but those taking place in Israel would never be granted approval.

Is Same Sex Marriage Advantageous To The Society?

• Same sex marriage is not reproductive and as such from the procreation angle, the matrimonial bonding between two persons of the same sex would not lead to the growth of human resources in the society.
• If a man or a woman is inclined to share his/her feelings only with an individual of the same sex, it is not unnatural and there is nothing to oppose it. They can live together as friends but if they think of entering into the pedestal of marriage and indulge in sexual relationship then it would not be in tune with the laws of nature.
• Furthermore, adequate nurture of kids is possible only when both the father and mother contribute equally to its upbringing. In some case, kids raised by single parent or even orphans later emerge as good and worthy individuals in life but altogether it would be far more beneficial to children if they are brought up by a father as well as a mother in their formative period. So, even if the same sex marriage couples adopt children they will still not be able to provide them what is actually needed by a child.

Proponents of Same Sex Marriage: What Is Their Viewpoint?

Proponents of same sex marriage argue that marriage depends on mutual consent and if two individuals of the same sex decide to marry and lead a conjugal life, they have the freedom to do so. They held the belief that society doesn't have the right to encroach on individual liberty and that the same sex individuals ready to marry each other are free to take decisions on marriage or any other personal aspect of their life.

The Final Word On Same Sex Marriage

Even though a section of the world is gearing up to legalize same sex marriage, it is a straightforward fact that if same sex marriage becomes popular like heterosexual marriage, then the society would not be a better place to live in, as such marriages are not correct biologically or even spiritually. Moreover, there would not be any special improvement pertaining to the general lifestyle of man except that it may help in controlling the over growing population of humans as the same sex marriage couples cannot reproduce.
